The Lithuanian Migration Department has begun the process of deporting Belarusian journalist Oleg Borshchevsky, husband of Nobel Peace Prize nominee and human rights activist Olga Karach, to Belarus.

Oleg faces up to 7 years in prison in Belarus for his role as the editor of the website nash-dom.info, which has been branded as extremist by the Belarusian authorities.

This website is linked to the human rights organisation Our House, which is also considered an “extremist group” in Belarus. In Lithuania, there is ongoing political persecution against human rights activist Olga Karach and her family due to her advocacy work in defense of Belarusians.

Despite the risks, Olga’s husband, Oleg Borshchevsky, has been denied political asylum, with authorities claiming that he allegedly faces no threats in Belarus.
