On July 15, the human rights activist of the ICGI “Our House” Yulia Goryachko was detained. She was arrested on suspicion of a crime under Article 342 of the Criminal Code (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order or active participation in them). Our colleague has been in jail for ten days now-and she faces up to three years in prison. On Sunday, July 25, churches in several European countries held prayers for Yulia’s health.
The geography of the churches where they prayed for Yulia is quite extensive. In Bremen, Germany, ten churches joined the ministry. Also, the churches of another German city – Munster, and the Catholic monastery near the German Osnabrück, took part in Sunday prayer. Some other European cities – the Croatian Rijeka, the Swiss Basel and the Italian province of South Tyrol – took up the initiative.
The churches of Europe have repeatedly provided support to Belarus – and it is significant in the context of the fight against the regime. Through prayer services and condemnation of the actions of the illegitimate government, the believers of European countries will learn about the anger, inhumanity, cruelty, violence and aggression of the usurper, about the new victims of the regime and that the Belarusian people need support more than ever.
We believe that the kind words and wishes from the European churches will reach Yulia, that she will feel how many people support her outside the prison cell and believe that freedom is already close, and the regime is now convulsing. And, of course, we will continue to do everything to ensure that these convulsions naturally end with the death of the illegitimate government, and our colleague is released faster and is safe.
