The main demand of the hungry strike of the women is the meeting with the president of Belarus

At June 11, 2019 it was the start of the hungry strike of mothers in Belarus which children are convicted to lengthy prison terms (8 to 15 years) pursuant of art. 328 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, notably following the entry into force (on 1.1.2015) of presidential decree Nb. 6 “On urgent measures to counter drug trafficking” (28.12.2014).

The main demand of the hungry strike of the women is the meeting with the president of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko demanding the release of relatives imprisoned on drugs-related charges and liberalization of anti-narcotics legislation.

Still Aleksandr Lukashenko has made no comment on the matter since then.

The mothers were visited by media, some CSOs and (today) one representative from the Belarussian Parliament. Also Valery Schukin, the chief of the “Our House” Board has visited and supported the mothers

The hungry strike will be continued until July 3, 2019 (in the day the Belarussian state should announce the new amnesty program implemented on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders).
